Industrial Visit at Tech Mahindra


School of Computer Science and Information Technology arranged one day Industrial Visit for 6th Semester students to “Tech Mahindra, Pune” dates 12th Jan 2023 for better technical knowledge enhancement of students.

The visit is important especially in the field of Engineering as the practice of engineering has an inherent (and unavoidable) impact on society. Being India’s First Skill University it is our prime focus on practical and skills. This program can be a powerful tool to constitute a positive industrial climate and can range from basic understanding to development for students.

Overall, this visit aims to train the students to adapt to changing scenarios of technology. After the visit students can identify their efficiency and performance which is important for their career, improving work efficiency and confidence.


Industrial visits are an integral part of Engineering and acknowledgment of technology upgrades. The purpose of industrial visits for students is to provide technical knowledge with the technological development in the industry and to understand the gap between theoretical and practical knowledge that could be passed in future.

This experience can help students to provide information regarding the functioning of various industries and associated problems and limitations.

Company Profile:

Tech Mahindra is a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group, an Indian information technology consulting and business solutions. The company is headquartered in Pune and has its registered office in Mumbai. It operates in 90 countries and has over 158,000 employees worldwide. Tech Mahindra announced its merger with Mahindra Satyam on March 21, 2012, after getting approval from the two company boards to create an IT company worth US$2.5 billion. The two firms had received the go-ahead for the merger from the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange.

In 2014, Tech Mahindra acquired Lightbridge Communications Corporation (LCC), one of the largest independent telecom services companies in the world with a local presence in over 50 countries. In 2015, Tech Mahindra acquired SOFGEN Holdings, a 450-employee Swiss IT firm serving the financial services industry Tech Mahindra purchased a controlling stake in Pininfarina S.p.A., an Italian brand in automotive and industrial design Tech Mahindra announced the launch of its Automation Framework AQT (Automation, Quality, Time) By March 2016, Tech Mahindra’s post-tax earnings had surged past that of M&M. Tech Mahindra said it would buy financial technology firm Target Group to boost its platform business process-as-a-service offering in the banking sector.

In 2017, Tech Mahindra and Midad Holdings, a part of diversified business conglomerate Al Fozan Group announced the launch of a joint venture, Tech Mahindra Arabia Ltd. On the basis of a global partnership agreement signed, Tech Mahindra will market Huawei’s enterprise products and services across 44 countries including India. Tech Mahindra announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire CJS Solutions Group LLC, a US-based healthcare Information Technology consulting company that does business as (DBA) “The HCI Group.” In 2019, Tech Mahindra acquired DynaCommerce BV. Tech Mahindra, in September 2019, has acquired BORN Group, a New York City-based digital content and production agency, for $95 million in an all-cash deal.

In March 2021, Tech Mahindra partnered with US-based business intelligence analytics company ThoughtSpot. In April 2021, Tech Mahindra acquired US-based DigitalOnUs, a hybrid cloud and DevOps services provider for $120 million. In June 2021, Tech Mahindra also acquired another US-based (New Jersey) Brainscale Inc., a leading cloud consulting and cloud transformation service provider for $30 million, and Colorado-based Eventus solutions group for $44 million. Overall, spending around $230 million to buy 5 companies in the year 2021 itself.

What do We Learn?

There are various departments in the campus of Tech Mahindra. We got the opportunity to visit the Maker’s lab of Tech Mahindra. Maker’s Lab focuses on Artificial intelligence and Innovation in the industry. They created various projects for the betterment of the people. We got to experience these projects in the maker’s lab itself. We got to see the metaverse version of Union Bank of India, BHAML language that was made to simplify the understanding of the language specific to the rural people, and so on.

The introduction was started by Mrs. Madhuri Kekre, who presented an overview of the company projects and various services they were involved in. The session was succeeded by Mr. Nikhil Malhotra, CIO of Tech Mahindra. It was a tremendous session with lots of learning in the field of Artificial Intelligence. We got to know about the various necessities in the industry for the upcoming era. It was a real-life experience in the field of artificial intelligence that was implemented in a successful manner.

After the break, the session was taken over by Dr. Riaz Mulla, author of “The Lockdown Diaries” and the leadership consultant of the firm. He cleared the queries of the students that were required in the industry to work on. It involved the talk on personality development, employability skills, leadership qualities and teamwork skills that has to be maintained to work successfully in the industry.

Conclusion: ­

This visit was a boon for the students who got to interact with the Assistant VP and CIO of the company themselves and the following amazing session on leadership qualities by respected sir. About 30 students of 6th semester from the School of Computer Sciences and Information Technology. Our HOD, Dr Neha Gupta benefitted us from this visit as they got a chance to discuss with the centre head about the industry training opportunity in the company in the form of internships. Moreover, the students experienced the working environment and corporate feel which marks the successful completion of the visit.

Tech CSIT 3rd year (Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences) to visit the industry for the first time in Pune and groom ourselves into corporate professionals and acquire more innovative skills. We visited the industry to interact and understand the latest technologies related to hardware and software.

The infrastructure of the company was literally eye-catching and it was the perfect atmosphere to work on. Hopefully, someday we get the opportunity to work and be the architect of the innovation.”
