International Yoga Day
Symbiosis University celebrates International Day of Yoga
The Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences (SUAS), Indore, celebrated the 5th International Yoga Day here today in University Campus. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from all faculty and staff.
The event began with the welcome address by Dr Mamta Thakur. On behalf of SUAS, Honourable Vice Chancellor Dr Sanjay Kumar extended a warm welcome to the guests specially invited for the occasion.
Those present included Ms Dipika Purohit & Mr Rajesh Agrawal (both Faculty with the Art of Living), Mr Ankit Dangi (Yog Visharad) and ASI Mr Ashwini Kumar – Weapons & Tactics Instructor & Yoga Trainer, Head Constable Mr Ambrish Kumar – Demolition Instructor and Yoga Trainer (both of the Border Security Force).
In his address, the Vice Chancellor shed light on the importance of this day. He said that Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual discipline that originated in India thousands of years ago. Several studies conducted on it the world over are showing positive results in treating incurable diseases.
He added further that Yoga is the balancing of body, mind and soul. Quoting from the Bhagwad Geeta, he said that Lord Shri Krishna has many a times lauded the benefits of Yoga by saying ‘Yoga leads to kaushal’ (where ‘kaushal’ means ‘karm’).
Dr Sanjay Kumar led the celebrations by practising various asans along with the faculty and staff, many of whom had brought their families along. The trained instructors conducted the Yoga sessions explaining their benefits related to mental and physical health. Everyone enthusiastically participated in the Yog session.
The Vice Chancellor felicitated the special invitees with mementos while Dr Mamta Thakur proposed the vote of thanks.
